I'm getting tired of listening to music at work with only 1 earbud. Looking for something relatively good, but not overly expensive... 40-50$ would probably be best. Something that blocks outside noise is very desirable.

Any suggestions? What do you use?

Check out SkullCandy I picked up a pair at Best Buy 6 months ago for about 25 bucks here is their website.

I too am a recent convert to the SkullCandy buds - they aren't 100% awesome audio qualtiy wise, but the durability is awesome - I've abused these phones so much.
The Sennheiser CX300-B earbuds have been good to me for going on two years now. They have the great Sennheiser audio quality in an earbud that blocks out a good amount of noise. Very affordable at $27 as well.

Check it out:

If you have an iPhone (and why don't you?!?!? The new one is out tomorrow!) then you should go get the Apple Pro Earbuds. They are around $80, but I REALLY like them and they sound great.
I don't have an iPhone...they're too expensive for my tastes and the exclusivity to AT&T disgusts me (it's just the exclusive piece I don't like...nothing to do with AT&T really). That's not to say I'll never give in, but right now I just don't think what I'd get out of it is worth the price and the supporting of such bad practices.
I don't think I've ever used earbuds for more than a few songs, so I'm no help here.

I understand the iPod airbuds you got out of the box when these things were still brand new were about as bad quality as they come, and people only use them to show off the fact that they own an iPod. I'm assuming and hoping those $80 iPhone ones are better. :)
Don't look at me. I still use over-the-ear acoustic headphones.
Skullcandy is really popular and look cool, Bose gives the best quality, and logitech and sony both make affordable middle of the road ones. You're main concern is where are you going to be wearing them? If noise cancellation is a major concern I'd recommend Bose since they are top notch quality, however its probably going to run you close to $60.
Okay, cool...earbuds have been ordered :) Went with a cheap pair of skullcandy.
My top earphones are sony HM-70 - comes with 3.5mm jack - but as they are meant for use with sony phone and connector, they are very short, so use an extension lead. v.v. low bass response, you almost feel the thump in your chest when mega bass is on! buy on ebay bay from someone selling a phone - but watch out for fakes!
radishnet- I gotta disagree with you.
Some of the best earbuds out there are either the Shure EC5 (professional monitoring often used on stage with custom ear molds), Entymotic ones, or Bang & Oflsen also has some killer ones. Unfortunately many of these push into the $300 range, but those are my top ones I'd say.

Definitely agree on watching for fakes (or mistakes). I tried to buy a pair of EC5's at one point, and the guy sent me EC3s not knowing the difference. Fail.
tibbon, I don't know about professional equipment and do know the maxim that you get what you pay for! , however, the question was a request for recommendations within $40-$50 price range and the comment I made earlier, I stand by. I will reiteraite, however, by saying when I first heard the HM-70's I was simply astounded by the bass response. A real treat! I'd love to have the opportunity to try out the buds you speak of, but until then, HM-70's even beat any BOSE or Sennheisers I've listened to.
I had the Sennheiser CX-300 buds, but the absolute best pair for the cost I've used is actually the ones that came with my Zune, the "Zune Premium" buds. They're $30 to $40, and have excellent bass and noise isolation.
